one massive pile of work interspersed with supernoodles!

i started college three weeks ago and i already feel so behind with pretty much everything! chemistry is so confusing (if someone can explain orbitals and subshells i would be eternally grateful); physics i esentially a massive pile of maths which i don't understand; german is five hours of being picked on for "you should know the answers!" and i genuinely have 10 sheets of biology due in on monday. but you know what, i love college! brilliant atmosphere, everyone's so friendly and frees are one of the best things ever! the work will work out i'm sure (fingers corssed anyway...).

summer school- two words that according to my friend shouldn't go together

i know i haven't posted anything for a while but i wanted to write and say what an absolutely amazing and inspiring time i had with the future foundations team at cambridge and essex university. we spent three days, including an overnight stay at newnham college, studying fascinating tutorials about medicine, doing interesting experiments using glucose, balloons and glue and learning different techniques so that we could become more in control of our actions and goals. we also learnt debating and public speaking skills which were really useful and fun to do but the most dramatic thing i think which happened was my lovely but excruciatingly shy best friend standing up at the end on her own to say thankyou to everyone for building her confidence. it really brought tears to my eyes! she is so lovely but worries all the time what people think and how they will react to her actions so her being able to do that was a huge jump. i am so proud of you heather!!! and thankyou future foundations!!!

what with being ill and everything i have had a bit of time on my hands and i've been filling it with a very productive craft! about a year ago my auntie julie taught me to knit and gave me a pattern to knit some corsages which my mother has agreed to sell at her next school fair. so now i've been knitting the really easy pattern to make a few which i sew a button in the middle and attach a safety pin to or a hairband for presents or to sell. here are a few pictures:

here's the finished article on my pyjamas which pins on at the back.

here are two of the finished ones. these two have both got pins at the back. i usually like to put a completementary coloured button but these ones were for friends who asked for these colours.

the blue wool is a wool that i'm currently working on. you can also kind of see the green knitted part which is the corsage before it has all been sewn together.

i hope you enjoyed a small peek into the workings of a master. haha- no that's definitely my god-mother... ;)

st john ambulance!

i'm off to my st john ambulance meeting later which i always look forward to every week. the only problem is all the forms that i'm constantly waiting to come through! i handed in my joining pack early november and i'm still waiting for my crb check to go through and my references to go through! i know that a crb check is always necessary but i'm only 16! and i can't go and help the public until everything's come through... i'm also a cadet which means that i intend to spend this evening covered in plasticine, makeup and fake blood while undertaking a casualty simulation! fun. ;)

prom dress shopping

i went shopping today in colchester in an attempt 2 find a prom dress in the sales. there is a beautiful shop called vintage on crouch street which sells second-hand 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s dresses. i found a lovely silk, floor-length dress in a turquoise-blue but it's a bit tight. it's quite cheap relly but i think i'll get it and lose some weight... ;) i know that prom's in the summer but dresses are a lot cheaper now!
i have a critical thinking exam on monday (fingers-crossed- with this weather nothing is certain!) which school says i have 2 do... i'm trying not 2 worry about it but still...

baking!

i seem 2 b doing A LOT of baking at the moment! i think it's just a tool 2 stay in the nice cosy warm kitchen eating my baked goodies... ;) yesterday i made DELICIOUS oat crunchies, the recipe 4 which i include below. I got the recipe from school and they taste like really good buttery hobnobs. The recipe should make around 24 depending on how u cut the dough.

OAT CRUNCHIES
100g butter
70g golden sugar
1 teaspoon golden syrup
3 teaspoons boiling water
100g self raising flour
50g rolled oats

Preheat the oven to 170C (fan oven)
  1. Cream butter and sugar.
  2. Add syrup and boiling water and beat well.
  3. Stir in oats and flour. Mix well.
  4. Roll into a sausage shape.
  5. Cut into 20-24 pieces.
  6. Roll each piece into a ball, place on a greased baking sheet and flatten with the back of a fork.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and cool on a wire rack.

I hope you enjoy making these! They are really quick, easy and tasty to make so enjoy! If this works I'll add more tasty ones because I have also recently made lots of other biscuits such as rose water ones- which were really delicate and tasty- and lemon and sasame seed biscuits which are waiting for me in the oven now!
